My Weekend

Finally! A summer holiday. Albeit a short one.
Mihoko-chan, Lee-san, Yuko-chan and about 12 others headed into the mountains of Toyama this weekend for some R&R. We loaded up 3 cars from Kurobe and met the others in Gokayama - a mountain village area that holds gassho houses (traditional thatch-roof houses). The area has been deemed a world heritage site where people are allowed to actually rent some of the houses (summer cottage-style). That's exactly what we did.

We arrived around 2 and immediately started up the barbeques. Food was ready by 3:30 and we didn't stop eating for the rest of the night.

We ate, drank, talked, laughed and danced around the campfire before moving the fun indoors for a few more late night hours of fun.

First thing in the morning we started the cooking/eating process all over again.

After breakfast and clean up, we said goodbye to our cottage and went to an onsen to soak our weary bodies. After we were all scrubbed clean we headed for lunch! More eating. This time a set menu of the local cuisine.

Then it was off the the dam to paddle around in kayaks and play some frisbee to dry off.

Finally, we took in a few of the local shops, including tofu ice cream -yes, more eating!

By 5 it was time to say goodbye and head back to Kurobe. It was only 2 days, but it was a great escape from the work week. I'd love to do it again next year!

ha ha...so are you going to be there next year to do it again? Are you going to keep us guessing? Or have you decided yet?Or am I just reading too much into an innocent comment?
